The Tallahassee Neighborhood Energy Challenge
The Council of Neighborhood Associations challenged Tallahassee residents to see which neighborhood is the biggest loser…of excess energy consumption and greenhouse gases that is!
We know that a collection of small actions taken by individual households to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions can make a significant impact. So CONA’s goal for the Tallahassee Neighborhood Energy Challenge to be a catalyst in combating climate change and promoting energy conservation. As side benefits, participants reduced energy bills and even got to know their neighbors a little better.
Our partners include the City of Tallahassee, Leon County, Sustainable Tallahassee, the Sierra Club, the Florida Wildlife Federation, the Big Bend Climate Action Team, and numerous corporate partners such as Bank of America, Salter>Mitchell, and Paragon New Media.
More than 500 teams were formed and participants pledged to reduce their electricity consumption and select at least one specific action to achieve their goal, like turning down hot water heaters, unplugging appliances when not in use, or installing CFLs. Simple actions, big returns!
